Fame or Fortune?

My philosophy teacher once asked me why I do all the things I do. Others may answer they do it for the incentives while some would hypocritically say they do it to help other people and to be a responsible citizen in the Republic of the Philippines.

But I told him I don’t know the answer to that question.

Now that I have more time to think about the question, I asked myself, “What do I really want?”

I did a lot of thinking and I was able to come up with four (4) answers: fame, power, riches, and most importantly good looks.

There are so many possible reasons why I picked these four. But the real question is, if you rank the four incentives I mentioned, “What is your number 1?” What is your last?

If I choose fame as number my number 1, it cannot assure me that it can bring me riches. It may give me a little power and I am pretty sure that there are people who are famous but with “disturbing” looks – not good.

Power will surely bring my name in the hit list of all gunmen and assassins in the world. Everyone is after the demise of the powerful because everyone believes that they are better than the rest and everyone believes they deserve everything. And I am part of that “everyone.”

Riches remind me of the TV series “Dirty Sexy Money.” I wish I am part of the Darling family, the richest family in Manhattan New York. I could be Jeremy Darling and Bryan Darling. If I combine these two characters, I can be very powerful and famous. You might be wondering why I did not pick Tripp Darling, the head of the Darling Enterprise.

But if you analyze everything, “good looks” is the only ticket to get the three I already mentioned. With good looks you can be famous and when you are already famous you will earn your riches. Finally, once you are rich, you are already powerful.

So I re-evaluated my four choices. Am I still after the four incentives? My answer is yes. One major reason is I can’t have good looks if I can’t afford the total overhaul doctors would do to make me look good. So if I am to rank the four incentives I mentioned, I would pick riches as my number followed by good looks. Then I will run for national office to give me fame and power.

That’s how the actors-turned-politicians did it.

I still have a year to put my plan into action. Enough time for the 2010 elections. Will you help me pick the right position for me?

Is there a position called prince charming? I might need a muse to help me run the office smoothly.
